Wall Street Journal Sheds Front Page Spotlight on Hilton Head Island Business
Pulitzer Prize-winning paper highlights Tactical Baby Gear, the brainchild of local entrepreneur Beav Brodie.
Hilton Head Island, SC, Nov. 11, 2017 – The Wall Street Journal, the largest newspaper in the country by circulation, recently used its front page to shine the spotlight on a bold new trend being pioneered by Hilton Head Island-based Tactical Baby Gear.
“Dads Are Manning Up With Military Style-Baby Gear” read the front-page headline story, which made extensive mention of Tactical Baby Gear’s founder, Beav Brodie, as well as the company’s ingenious line of baby products for guys.
“Dads can attach different accessories, such as Tactical Baby Gear’s ‘dump pouch.’ The gun-range version of the pouch is meant to hold used ammunition. The baby version holds a different sort of dump,” the story read, name-dropping a product designed right here on Hilton Head Island.
The story, penned by WSJ Staff Reporter Corinne Ramey, highlighted a trend toward more masculine baby gear, from diaper bags to carriers. This trend sees baby accessories skewing away from the frilly, pink-and-blue-hued bags of yesterday in favor of more rugged, guy-friendly designs. Tactical Baby Gear has been on the front lines of this trend since the company’s humble beginnings in Brodie’s garage, helping it to grow from a home business to an international online-order and social media phenomenon.
“Growing this company has been my driving passion for 5 years now,” said Brodie. “To see the countless hours of work recognized by a major media outlet like The Wall Street Journal, on the front page no less, really motivates us to take this company to the next level.”
The full story can be viewed online at bit.ly/TBGinWSJ.

ABOUT TACTICAL BABY GEAR
Founded on Hilton Head Island in 2013, Tactical Baby Gear aims to end diaper-bag emasculation with a full range of diaper bags, backpacks, carriers and accessories built with tactical style and field-tested utility in mind.
Frustrated with the frilly, pastel-hued diaper bags available to him when preparing for the birth of his first daughter, founder Beav Brodie decided to make his own, using the design principles and military-grade construction of tactical gear used by our military and first responders. The success of this first bag led to an expansion of the product line into carriers, accessories and patches.
The result is the world’s finest baby gear, ready to help guys the world over answer the call of daddy. Learn more at www.tacticalbabygear.com, or follow Tactical Baby Gear on Instagram, subscribe on YouTube and like on Facebook for regular contests, updates and content.
NOTE: Interviews with Beav Brodie, B-Roll and images available upon request.

The first rule of taking your kids to a fall festival – if they’re on the bouncy house, you’re on the bouncy house. The second rule of taking your kids to a fall festival – do not attempt to sneak a bite of Sno Cone. You’ll just have to trust us on that one. It’s an easy way to get slapped.
But the third and most important rule, as Beav finds out this week, do not go into the Corn Maze without a map.
After navigating their way out (where’s the drone when you need it?), Beav and the family are in full Halloween mode at Charleston’s Boone Hall. Join them for a peak at the dad life in this edition of the Weekly Dump.

While taking care of business in Salt Lake City, Beav’s ready to blow off some steam with his buddy the Manspot.
But you don’t just show up to something like this empty handed, so Beav came baring gifts – a sweet TBG Power Wheels for Manspot’s little dude and a full suite of Tactical Baby Gear diaper bags for the crew at the Armory.
After that, join Beav on a trip out west for some killer mountain scenery, a little exotic cuisine (can some west coast In N Out move the needle for a die-hard Five Guys fan?) and of course some good old fashioned shooting out in the great wide open.

There are Saturdays, and then there are Dadurdays.
Beav’s loading up his girls for a day out with daddy, which means plenty of quality time and a solid menu of donuts and ice cream. Starting out at Duck Donuts, Beav takes the Veer cart out for a spin among some other (slightly larger) four-wheelers at Hilton Head’s Jeep Island event.
Then, what do you have for lunch when you had doughnuts for breakfast? Duh; froyo.
It’s all in a Dadurday’s work.

With Hurricane Irma bearing down, putting Tactical Baby Gear HQ in the cone of uncertainty once again, Beav heads out to document the storm before and after.
Check out this special three-part Weekly Dump, where Beav takes the family out to the water’s edge in the still hours before Irma in episode 29, swings by a pre-hurricane party in episode 30, then heads out in the TBG truck to survey the damage in episode 31. You’ll witness first-hand how, even though our area was largely spared, Irma packed a wallop.
We were extremely lucky that the storm passed us by, and we here at TBG want to extend all our thoughts and prayers to our neighbors in Florida and Georgia. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

After a week off for some range therapy and a few automotive mishaps, Beav is back with another episode of The Weekly Dump.
And once again, we’re giving you more. In addition to the free swag we’re handing out on the reg through Facebook and Instagram, Beav wants to help you with your car questions. You might not know this, but TBG’s founder has an extensive automotive background for fixing up beaters to pimping out customs. Want to put his years of experience to work for you? Check out the video to find out how.
Then check out how the recent solar eclipse looked from coastal South Carolina, just a chip shot outside the path of totality. Safety first - Beav brought his welder’s helmet so he (probably) won’t fry his eyeballs.

Ordinarily, we try to embrace the suck at Tactical Baby Gear, but somedays there’s just a lot of suck to go around. Those are usually the days where, as a fun bonus, it starts raining.
Look rain, we get it. Without rain, there would be no plants. Without plants, there would be no coffee beans. But you’re hell on a to-do list.
Beav finds that out as he braves a downpour to get hustling before a birthday party – picking up the goods, running the errands, getting the yard looking sharp and setting up a trampoline like a boss. And just when he’s clear of the suck, his drone decides to pick a fight with a tree. Check out the video and see who won.

Oh, so you thought the life of a hard-hustling baby-bag selling entrepreneur was all fun and games. You’re only mostly wrong.
In this episode, you’re treated to a sneak peek of our next #AskTBG segment before Beav dives into the hustle, making magic out of nothing but a laptop and a few gallons of high-test coffee with his partner in crime Alex.
But yeah, it’s not all work. Even the hustle can’t stop Beav from cruising down to the fire station to salute his boy Craig Hysell at his firefighter graduation ceremony. Hysell’s a fellow do-or-die entrepreneur and now he’s using that drive to save lives.

Beav and the family are taking a break from the hustle to get out on the lake in this installment of Weekly Dump. Join them as they meet up with the whole gang for some outdoor shenanigans, Tactical Baby Gear style. We’re talking exploring creepy farm houses, hitting up alligator alley on the hunt for gators, learning the finer points of redneck boat design, reeling in the mightiest minnow ever pulled in on a toy fishing rod, staking out deserted islands on Lake Marion and all the troublemaking you’d expect when the TBG family gets together.
Oh yeah, and deep fried Oreos. Because South Carolina.

Fourth of July weekend had us feeling extra patriotic this year – check out this week’s weekly dump to see what Beav and the family were up to over the holiday. Between paying respects at the local veteran’s memorial and checking out the planes during Salute from the Shore, the crew also got in some quality family time digging into some Duck Donuts.
After that, we’re heading up the coast to Charleston for a special AskTBG with Andrew Jaffee at Northwestern Mutual. Check out a little behind the scenes, then pick up some crucial pointers by watching the full AskTBG session with Andrew on our YouTube page.

The true tactical dad is ready for anything – snack time, nap time, loaded diapers outta nowhere, screaming fits, temper tantrums, boogeymen in the closet and peanut butter fingerprints all over his iPhone.
But no one is ever truly prepared for the nightmare that is the U.S. Postal Service.
Beav finds this out firsthand is he takes on the USPS head on in this week’s Weekly Dump, which also features a trip to the dentist (look for great tips coming soon from Dr. Shane Harpham) and a sweet poolside shindig featuring two words that make every parent smile – no kids. It’s a little well-deserved grownup time after an experience that almost had Beav going postal.
All this plus some real talk about Ask TBG, new gear from Refrack Industries and more.

Beav and Alex are hopping into the Tactical Baby Gear truck for a trip up to North Carolina, for Chevy's Night Vision Driving Demo at The Range Complex in North Carolina.
Along with Beav’s old friend Frosty with American Milsim, the guys check out some live K-9 training, fire off a few rounds and answer some questions from Tactical Baby Gear fans. Then, it’s time for the main event: strapping on night vision goggles and taking a Chevrolet Z71 Tahoe out for a little nighttime cruise. They’re killing headlights and crushing terrain – it’s all in a day’s work.
The Weekly Dump ends at Tactical Baby Gear’s warehouse. Take a peek inside the nerve center of the whole operation and see how the world’s toughest diaper bags and baby gear gets from TBG to your doorstep.

Between raising two girls and building Tactical Baby Gear, Beav knows a thing or two about trying to keep work life and family life balance. It can be a tightrope walk, so how does he do it? Check out this week’s Weekly Dump to hear some of his thoughts and advice there. Essentially, it all comes down to quality vs. quantity. As Beav points out, “It’s all about what you do when you’re with your kids rather than how much time you spend with them.”
Of course, in between work and family you have to have some play time. Beav stops by Shepherd Tactical to pick up his newest toy and say hi to a fan (what’s up, Chris!). Want to check out Beav’s new rifle? Hit up the video, then stick around for some solid advice as we help out a fan whose 19-day-old baby won’t stop crying and offer up a few pointers on teaching your baby sign language.

Beav and the family are spending another day at the park, taking in Animal Kingdom and sharing some tips and advice on the best ways to enjoy the park.
Worried about your kids getting lost at Walt Disney World? Beav has some good advice there, as well as some tips on what to bring (sunscreen, and lots of it) and a heads up on park access for the physically disabled as well as how to avoid some pain points (you’re taking trams everywhere – you’d better be able to break down a stroller and quick). He also has a few good points to make about getting around through the Magic Kingdom that might just help you out in real life as well.
Check out the post-credits to find out how a disaster was narrowly averted, and how the proper training might just make the difference, at Disney World and in the real world.
Click HERE to subscribe to our Youtube channelIt’s a rite of passage for everyone living that dad life: at some point you’re going to pack up the family and head to Walt Disney World.
Beav’s starting off summer by taking the girls down to the Magic Kingdom, and on the way to the land of the $12 cup of Sprite, he raises a good point about teaching kids about money. When is a good time to start teaching kids the value of a dollar? Check out Beav’s thoughts, then let us know your own online.
Finally, the gang arrives at Disney. Follow the family on their adventure and you’ll pick up tips on what you can and can’t take through security (it’s basically an airport), how to get the most out of your FastPass and (unfortunately) what to do when it rains.
Yes, some days it rains on the Magic Kingdom (every time Beav goes there, for example), but that’s all the more reason to be prepared.
Click HERE to subscribe to our Youtube channelWe’re starting off this week’s edition at home, with Beav holed up at Tactical Baby Gear HQ answering some questions from fellow entrepreneurs on building a business (bottom line – don’t put a cat in your logo if you’re not in the cat businesses. There’s actually more to it that, but that’s pretty crucial right there). After that, he’s sharing advice on taking a leadership role in your life. Do you feel like you’re not setting the best example for your kids? Beav might just have the answer for you.
After that, we’re packing up the TBG truck and heading down to Savannah’s Historic Grayson Stadium, for the Nine Line Foundation’s Run for the Wounded 5k and 10k. Setting up shop right on the third base line where the Savannah Bananas play, Beav joins a group of other local patriots helping raise funds to build a house for retired Marine Eric Morante. It’s all part of the foundation’s mission to improve the lives of our veterans, and Tactical Baby Gear is proud to join the cause.
Click HERE to subscribe to our Youtube channelEvery day of a Tour of Daddy is a fresh adventure, as Beav demonstrates when his youngest, Kendall, wakes up with a massive ear infection. No one ever promised you a rose garden, and some days rushing a kid off the doctor when they wake up with a pillow full of blood is just part of the job.
After that, it’s on to more TBG customer questions. The most common is how to handle the random and insane way that newborns approach sleep. To help out, Beav dispenses his wisdom from his years of experience in the trenches of fatherhood. Long story short, if that baby’s sleeping you should be, too.
Then it’s on to a meeting with Beav’s exceptionally handsome and funny cousin, Barry, who shares his unparalleled brilliance with the team on an upcoming video project. (If it isn’t obvious by now, Barry also writes these video teasers). Stay tuned for the results in an upcoming epic TBG ad.

]]>Back from a brief hiatus, The Weekly Dump sees Beav knee-deep in the hustle, checking on the vehicle wrap on the Tactical Baby Gear truck, meeting with suppliers and customers, and working to dispel rumors about killer clowns.
In addition to some of the sickest snowboarding apparel in the world, Fuel Clothing Co., also makes TBG’s “Dad Life” socks. Beav stops by to check out the operation, grab some pizza and hear all about Fuel’s Sock Karma program. For every pair of socks you buy, Fuel will donate one to the homeless. We think that’s pretty awesome, so make sure you check out the link in the video and help out a great cause.
At TBG we’re all about our customers, so when one of them said he’d be in the area and wanted a tour, how could we say no? Join valued customer Ethan on a tour through the shop and a conversation on fatherhood.
Then, inspired by Ethan’s thoughts on work-life balance, Beav takes off early to spend time with his daughter Cameron. Quality time sees them tromping through the woods, Beav trying to convince his daughter that, despite playground rumors, there are no invisible killer clowns in the woods (we hope).

Beav’s headed down to Savannah to talk with Mike Taylor from Key Bar in advance of the Epic Baby Shower he’s been planning. Of course, the boys have to talk shop, giving Mike a chance to show off the BabyBar (every toy your baby wants, right on one tool) and quick draw revolving pen holder (check the link for the Kickstarter). It also gives Beav a chance to show off the new Daypack 3.0.
But it’s not all business. With Mike’s first baby just days away, Beav fills him in on what to expect what your partner is being induced. If you’re getting ready to have your first baby, you no doubt have a ton of questions. You’ll find most of your answers here.
After that it’s on to NineLine Apparel, a clothing line based out of Savannah founded, owned and run by veterans. After looking around and talking shop with the folks at Nine Line, Beav picks up some onesies perfect for the baby shower.

It’s spring break, which means it’s time to get out there and enjoy some family time doing the sort of things that – let’s face it – you’d be doing whether you had kids or not. It’s no different here at Tactical Baby Gear, where the hustle can take a day off for a little bit of that Dad Life.
For Beav and the gang, that means a home-cooked breakfast before heading out to Fun Zone Amusement & Sport Park in Pooler, Georgia for some putt-putt, Go-Karts and quality dad time. After that, it’s time for some high-flying trampoline craziness at Get Air Savannah.
The Dad Life never ends, so make sure you get out there and enjoy some family time, whether it’s spring break or not (and be sure to do it in style in our #DadLife socks). Check out the latest Weekly Dump below to see how Tactical Baby Gear does spring break.

As you probably guessed, we’re huge fans of America’s veterans here at Tactical Baby Gear®. We salute their courage and the sacrifices they make to secure our freedom.
That’s why we love to see members of our armed forces succeed, and do whatever we can to support them. Nine Line Apparel, based out of Savannah Georgia, was founded by two brothers who are both U.S. Army veterans CPT Tyler Merritt and CPT Daniel Merritt. With their staff of veterans, they make kick-ass American-made apparel, equipment and accessories that are as stylish as they are “relentlessly patriotic.”
As he readies for the Epic TBG Baby Shower for Mike Taylor over at Keybar, Beav drops by Nine Line Apparel for a tour of their shop, a quick visit with Co-Founder Daniel and President Matt Lyda and a chance to pick up a few patriotic Nine Line Apparel onesies for the shower.
Tactical Baby Gear is a proud supporter of the Nine Line Foundation, and it’s always a blast to stop by Nine Line Apparel and catch up with fellow entrepreneurs and patriots.
